My story

6Figure TechWriter was not born from a long-time dream; rather, it evolved from a lot of moving pieces, observations, and feelings that collided at the moment they were meant to and prompted action.

Rewind to 2006, I was looking for a new job because work for my team at the Johnson Space Center in Houston was in transition. I was soon hired on as a contractor for a Technical Writing company that specialized in supporting the oil & gas industry. I still clearly remember being stunned that I was going to make more than double the pay I had been receiving working for a government agency. My heartache for leaving the space program was suddenly less agonizing.

Jump forward to 2012, I became friends with a few people who worked hard during ever-changing shifts at a laboratory that treated their employees pretty shamefully. They weren't paid much for the incredible work they were doing, had to clock in and out for lunch, and were expected to show up for work even when they were sick and contagious. I could not wrap my head around why any of them tolerated the unprofessional treatment and work environment, much less the low pay. At the first opportunity, I pulled one of them over to the energy industry to fill a role that was a perfect match for his bio-chem degree and skill set. I continued considering peers when opportunities arose where I could lift them up.

By 2014, when I became VP Operations of J. Wilson & Associates, I had already learned so many valuable business lessons from the company's founder, and my mentor, John Wilson - lessons that didn't involve margins. One lesson that still stands out today is "pay people well." I'm sure we're all familiar with the phrase, "take care of your employees, and they'll take care of the clients."

Roll all of that up and compound it with the feelings of someone who is always willing to help and hates to see people being taken advantage of, and you should begin to understand my motivations. I want more for people that deserve it and are willing to work hard for it than I want more for myself. It feels silly to say, "If I can do it, you can too," but there it is, and I'm here to help.

The services I provide to my clients through my Energy Ascension program were designed to help driven Technical Writers transition to higher-paying, more fulfilling careers in energy. I'm in the unique position of not only being a Technical Writer with 20+ years of experience in the energy industry, but also being a manager responsible for hiring Technical Writers for energy industry clients for 13+ years.

I leverage my dual perspective to streamline and expedite the transition process and provide done-with-you strategies to win that next-level role!
